UUID Generator

Generate UUID v4 or time-ordered v7 IDs, up to 1,000 at a time, using your browser's cryptographically secure random generator.

0 v4 UUIDs

v4 IDs are 122 bits of secure randomness

    How to generate UUIDs

    1. Step 1

      Choose a version

Pick v4 for random IDs or v7 for time-ordered IDs.

    2. Step 2

      Set the count and format

Choose how many, and whether you want uppercase or no hyphens.

    3. Step 3

      Copy or download

Copy a single ID, copy all of them, or download uuids.txt.

    v4 or v7

UUID v4 is 122 bits of randomness and the safe default for most IDs. UUID v7, standardised in RFC 9562, starts with a millisecond timestamp, so new IDs sort after older ones. That keeps B-tree indexes in PostgreSQL and MySQL compact and makes IDs roughly sortable by creation time.

    How random are they

Both versions use crypto.getRandomValues, the same secure source browsers use for encryption keys. The chance of two v4 IDs colliding is negligible for any realistic number of records.

    When not to use v7

Because v7 IDs reveal roughly when they were created, avoid them where creation time should stay private, such as public invite links.

    Questions and answers

    Are these UUIDs unique?

For practical purposes, yes. They use a cryptographically secure random source, so collisions are vanishingly unlikely.

Are the IDs generated on a server?

No. They are generated in your browser and never sent anywhere.

What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?

They are the same thing. GUID is the name Microsoft uses for UUIDs.
